Direct Instruction
When teaching a new concept, direct instruction is key. This means that the teacher will follow a routine (located on your Purple Flip Chart) to teach a concept.
Here are tips to teaching a new concept using direct instruction:
- Follow a routine to teach a new concept (Purple Flip Chart or Teacher’s Guide)
- Explain the concept
- Model the concept
- Allow for guided practice with the student with immediate correction
- Allow for independent practice
- Continued review for mastery. A predictable and regular routine for review is how concepts are put in long-term memory.
Following these reminders when teaching will be beneficial to all students.
