Word Dictation Variation

Estimated reading: 1 minute

Variations for word dictation:

  • Fingertapping
    • This is a skill learned in the Comprehensive course. If you’re familiar with this process, perhaps your older student could benefit from fingertapping morphemes to spell a word.
  • Have students write word sums by writing one morpheme at a time. For example: constructed; con+struct+ed → constructed.

To provide students with a positive, encouraging environment, it is best to give students lots of cues, and then slowly pull away. Each student is unique, so you as the educator need to differentiate the dictation paper. What may be appropriate for one student is not appropriate for all!

If your student is struggling with letter-sound correspondence and/or spelling rules, consider taking IMSE’s Comprehensive OG+ course. Find a training by visiting our website www.imse.com
